about
Davis’ cover of “I'll Do Anything But Breakdance For Ya, Darling,” turns Johnston’s original rickety piano composition into a rousing indie rock song. Synths and a simple drumbeat arrive midway through and burst open like an asteroid. “I was trying to convey the feelings of unrequited love, and all the messiness of the emotions that are so effortlessly and plainly stated in the song,” Davis says. “The breakdance reference is, to me, very funny.”
lyrics
Sometimes I feel like I am a boxer
Seems like I'm always standing in the ring
And then I find someone's been in my locker
He left me a note that says I can't sing
I'll do anything but break dance for you, darlin'
I just stepped out of the doniker
I don't know what happened and I can't remember
But I was soon to discover
That my radio had been broken
I'll do anything but break dance for ya, darlin'
Don't you know that I love you, love you
Don't you know that I love you, love you
All the folks on dope in search of hope
Everybody and the lonely orphan
And everyone around the world
Every boy and every girl
For all the good times
Always remember and never forget
In my secret heart
I'll do anything but break dance for ya, darlin'
Don't you know that I love you, love you
Don't you know that I love you, love you
Don't you know that I love you, love you
Don't you know that I love you, love you

I think it's difficult to write songs about something other than romantic love, and still be able to communicate the intensity with which those feelings can hit a person. Some of the entries on this album are fantastic examples of this niche. dani_bloop
